Imagine that every
American citizens organs and tissue were willingly donated to medical
science upon their death. What would the world be like? Well, for starters,
no one would die waiting for a transplant. There would be no waiting time;
indeed, there would hardly be a need for a list. Mothers would not have
to needlessly bury their sons; fathers could watch his daughters grow
up. Worldwide, ten million blind children would be able to see. With skin
readily available for use as dressings, child burn victims wouldnt
have to go through life disfigured and the object of stares. In fact,
multitudes of suffering people could be restored to health. How is it
possible to measure the effect this would have on these people and on
their families? What if it was this way? Amazing research breakthroughs
could be made with an abundant supply of organs. And, of course, there
would be no black market for organs. |
